I\u2019ve now read at least three big profiles of Lauren Sanchez, and I come out of each one understanding why Jeff Bezos dumped his wife for her. I\u2019m not saying I like his decision – Mackenzie Bezos seems like a cool woman and I hope she gets hers – but I understand why and how Lauren and Jeff\u2019s affair began and why he seems genuinely in love with her. She\u2019s vivacious, full of life and very bold and warm. Do I also think there\u2019s a golddigger aspect to her, and a \u201cmidlife crisis\u201d aspect to Bezos? For sure. But most men in Jeff Bezos\u2019 position, when looking for a second wife, would have gone with a 20-something model or someone adept at power-brokering. Instead, Jeff Bezos followed his heart and went for the 53-year-old former local TV newscaster and reality-star-adjacent. So, Lauren has another profile, this time in Vogue. She didn\u2019t get the cover and I doubt she\u2019s mad about that. Lauren is exceptionally chatty and\u2026yeah, I sort of like her. Some highlights: <\/p>\n

Jeff Bezos on how Lauren changed him:<\/strong> \u201cShe has really helped me put more energy into my relationships. She\u2019s always encouraging me: \u2018Call your kids. Call your dad. Call your mom.\u2019 And she\u2019s also just a very good role model. She keeps in touch with people. I\u2019ve never seen her put makeup on without calling somebody. Usually her sister.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lauren loves how extroverted Bezos has become:<\/strong> \u201cHe\u2019s the life of the party. He\u2019s just extremely enthusiastic, and extremely funny. He can be really goofy. I mean, you\u2019ve heard him laugh, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

Their wedding plans:<\/strong> \u201cWe\u2019re still thinking about the wedding, what it\u2019s going to be. Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don\u2019t know yet. We\u2019ve only been engaged five months!\u201d He proposed at the start of their summer at sea, hiding the ring under her pillow after a starlit dinner \u00e0 deux. She found it at bedtime, her makeup off. \u201cWhen he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Will she take his name? <\/strong>She looks at me like I am insane. \u201cUh, yes, one hundred percent. I am looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos.\u201d<\/p>\n

The responsibilities of being the wife of one of the richest men in the world:<\/strong> \u201cI think there are a lot of opportunities that come with that, and I take those opportunities very seriously. We always look at each other and go, \u2018We\u2019re the team.\u2019 So everything\u2019s shared.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their schedules revolve around their kids:<\/strong> \u201cOur lives are pretty normal,\u201d is how S\u00e1nchez puts it. \u201cDaily life mostly revolves around our kids.\u201d Her arrangement with Whitesell means she and Bezos spend alternating weeks with Evan and Ella in LA, where both are in school\u2026 Bezos\u2019s kids, four in all, are now at college, so there are university visits layered in too. Wherever they are, there\u2019s the same agreement: \u201cWhoever gets up first, that person makes the other person coffee,\u201d she says. Bezos takes his black or with Laird Hamilton\u2019s superfood nondairy creamer, in a self-warming Ember mug. S\u00e1nchez uses a mug Bezos got her from Amazon, with the words \u201cWoke up sexy as hell again\u201d splashed across the side.<\/p>\n

They love movie nights:<\/strong> Saturday family movie nights are a tradition. The week we meet they\u2019d just enacted their own version of Barbenheimer with Oppenheimer screened Saturday night and Barbie on Sunday. \u201cOf course, Jeff\u2019s favorite movie was Oppenheimer, and I love Barbie. And there you have us summed up in two movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

She doesn\u2019t exactly dress in a \u201cclassy\u201d way:<\/strong> \u201cI always found it interesting that people say, \u2018Well, Lauren, you definitely dress more for men.\u2019 I actually dress for myself.\u201d She cites Salma Hayek and Amal Clooney as style inspirations. \u201cWhy? Because they dress for who they are, and that authenticity, I think, comes through.\u201d A shimmering Dolce & Gabbana halter column she wore to a recent Caring for Women event felt exactly right: \u201cI really think I am coming into who I am and I know what feels good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aging gracefully?<\/strong> \u201cIt\u2019s really simple.\u201d She cites the MEDS acronym\u2014meditation, exercise, diet, and sleep\u2014personally adding sunscreen to the end of it. \u201cI don\u2019t ever think, Wow, I\u2019m going to be 54 in December and I\u2019m getting married. It is all happening. We\u2019re excited about the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Vogue piece also details how involved she\u2019s become in all of Jeff\u2019s charitable endeavors. Pretty much as soon as their affair began, Bezos began putting together all of these charities and initiatives. While I don\u2019t doubt that Bezos buys her whatever she wants – jewelry, clothes, helicopters, rockets – she\u2019s also a big part of how he gives away his fortune. Also: I can totally see Salma as a style inspo for Lauren. Both are petite, top-heavy women. Lauren\u2019s had a ton of plastic surgery though, so \u201cmeditation and sleep\u201d isn\u2019t really the anti-aging secret in this case.<\/p>\n
